Q: sounds from some app alerts not working on iPhone 6

I have an iPhone 6 and iOS 9.2.1. The alert sounds from some apps are not working. Some have before and some have never. I've done the following already:

**deleted the app and re-installed it

**made sure mute is not on and checked all sounds

**the sound "yes" switch is on for all notifications

**did the reset where you hold the 2 buttons at once and then the Apple icon comes up.

This is very frustrating to me. I keep feeling there is some hidden place where I might have accidentally turned off or muted the alert sound? I just can't find it! Please help. Thanks so much!

    Hey 82football84,

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities.

From what I gather, there's an issue notification alert sounds not playing for some apps on your iPhon 6. Try taking a look at the article linked below which provides some additional troubleshooting tips that may help you resolve this issue.

Use Notifications on your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch - Apple Support

If you don't see notifications for a specific app

To get notifications, you need to be connected to a Wi-Fi or cellular network. If you’re not getting notifications for a specific app, try these steps:

    1. Make sure that the app supports notifications. Go to Settings > Notifications, select the app, and make sure that Notifications are turned on.
    2. Make sure that you’re signed in to your Apple ID on your iOS device. Go to Settings > iTunes & App Stores and enter your Apple ID and password.
    3. Make sure that Do Not Disturb is turned off. Go to Settings > Do Not Disturb and tap Manual if it's turned on.
    4. If you’ve recently installed an app or restored from a backup, open the app to start getting notifications.

If the issue persists, you can try restoring your iPhone to rule out any potential issues with iOS as shown here:

Restore your device from an iCloud or iTunes backup - Apple Support

    Cheers.

thank you very much for this help. I've done all the things you've mentioned. By reset do you mean:

    **reset all settings?

    **erase all content and settings?

    **reset network settings?

    Or...?

Again, it is really weird. For example: I had forever the alert sound working on the CNBC app. Now, the alert always shows but never the sound and the sound is checked to work etc.

    Thanks for letting me know.

I didn't mention a reset because it sounds like you did a force reset as outlined here:

Restart your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support

Due to the nature of the notifications issue, you may find more information by using another one of these Apple support resources - https://getsupport.apple.com/GetproductgroupList.action.

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.

I did "reset all settings" yesterday but the problem is still not solved. Alert sounds work on some apps and not others. Alert sounds that were working on some apps previously are still not working now. I still keep thinking I inadvertently clicked "mute" somewhere in my phone for those alerts but just can't find it...thoughts?
