Can't Scan from C220

Scanning Problem using 10.11.3

Hardware:

Printer - Konica Minolta C220 Driver Version 3.9.0 (latest driver)

Macs:

MacBok Pro

IMac

We have recently upgrades our Macs to 10.11.3. Since the upgrade we are not able to scan to the Macs via the Konica Minolta C220. Previously we were using 10.6 or 10.7. We had installed a handy patch called ftpd- enable that allowed us to use the ftp protocol for scanning and this worked fine with the older OS X software. We also scan from the same printer to a few PC’s using SMB.

Konica has informed us that this is a Mac OS issue and they are not able to help us. Since everything worked fine until the upgrade we are confident that they are correct.

Please let us know if there is something we can change that will allow us to scan as before.

Your help is greatly appreciated.

Kind Regards, Robert

You can still use FTP protocol to scan from the KM to the Mac. To enable the FTP protocol on the Mac you can open Terminal and copy the following text and paste it.

sudo -s launchctl load -w /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/ftp.plist

Then press the Enter key. You will be prompted to authenticate with your admin password.

With FTP enabled on the Mac, you can then create an address book entry in the KM using the following settings;

  • Protocol: FTP
  • Hostname: IP address of Mac
  • File Path: path to folder from Home folder
  • User Name: Full user name of the account owner of the destination folder
  • Password: Password for the account above

An example of the KM address book configuration to a Mac with an IP address of 172.17.4.33 and a user of Fred and a folder called Scans located on his Desktop would be;

  • Protocol: FTP
  • Hostname: 172.17.4.33
  • File Path: Desktop/Scans
  • User name: Fred
  • Password: password

Thanks PAHU but what you suggested is what we have currently done. The KM and Macs are setup per the KM documentation. As I posted, using 10.5 or 10.6 we were able to make this work by using the ftp patch as you described. Unfortunately under 10.11.3 this no longer works. Apparently Apple has changed the way the ftp protocol is written or maybe they have abandoned it altogether? SMB works for the PC's but I can't get it to work on the Macs.

Hi Robert. I don't believe Apple has made any change. I just tested FTP scanning from a Canon iR ADV C3330 to a Mac running 10.11.3 and it worked fine.

Did you use the old FTP patch or the Terminal command that I showed?

Regarding SMB, Apple introduced their own adaption on SMB in OS X 10.7. The primary change was with the authentication method and this stopped many devices from being able to scan using SMB. I believe that KM released firmware updates that made some of their copiers compatible. Never saw such an update with the Canon's so we have always needed to use FTP.
