Q: FaceTime and Messages "not responding" on MacBook Pro but work on iPhone 6 Plus and iPad Mini 3
Back in January, I sent a text message with an extremely large number of phone numbers through Messages on the Macbook Pro. Ever since, Messages and FaceTime will not open without the spinning pinwheel, the system fan goes into high gear and the computer slows down greatly until I Force Quit either software. I have zero problems on the iPhone or iPad with either.
I already deleted the Messages library and attachments, and this actually seems to have made the problem worse.
I have done a complete reinstall of the OS (El Capitan), and this had zero effect.
My guess is that those two very large text messages are the culprit, and I cannot figure out how to reset all the messages. I'm happy to delete all of them, if I can somehow get my Macbook to recognize that this has happened. Otherwise, I am at my wits end trying to get these two apps to work again. I am quite the newbie, so please refer to any steps as simply as possible. (Btw- the texts were for a legitimate business response to a request for follow up, and I was hoping to just not have to send them all individually- FAIL)
Thanks for any help you can offer, Apple!
Rob

In the iCloud preference pane, is the box marked Contacts checked?
In the Internet Accounts preference pane, do you have any Contacts accounts?
