Q: Changing user ID for iCloud on iPhone 5

I want to change this information but the User ID was set-up with an email account that is no longer active and therefore 'Forgot Password' does not work so I can not sign-out the phone on iTunes.  I have added the device to my iTunes account but the phone continues to show the obsolete Apple ID.  Is there another way to accomplish deleting/revising this information?

iPhone 5s, iOS 9.2.1

You can try to recover that old Apple ID if it still exists by going to appleid.com, but if you actually changed the old ID to something new (and kept the same Apple Account just changed the email), then it gets a little more tricky.  Check out the steps in: If iCloud asks you for the password to your previous Apple ID - Apple Support

If all else fails, call Apple: Contact Apple for help with Apple ID account security - Apple Support

Sorry - not sure what you mean by you have "added the device to your iTunes account", but if the obsolete email was the previous email used on your current Apple account, then you should be able to sign out of iCloud by typing in your current password, if that is the issue. However, although your title indicates iCloud, the body says you cannot sign out of iTunes. Can you clarify which it is?

If it was a totally separate Apple account, then you still can reset the password regardless of whether it is still a working email account. As an Apple ID, it would still be out there, so you can go to: Apple - My Apple ID and click on Forgot password under the sign in boxes. Type in the old email address when it asks for the Apple ID.

Post back with any clarifications, if needed.

    Cheers,

SSome previous forum discussions seemed to indicate that by adding the phone to my current iTunes account I would be successful in making this change but I was wrong.  The phone Settings>iCloud show the obsolete Apple ID plus I get a message to sign-out of Find My Phone which also is linked to the obsolete Apple ID.

Again, is the obsolete ID one that was previously used on your existing Apple account (the one that has your current ID), or was it a totally separate Apple account? Also, I don't know what you mean when you say you "added it to your iTunes account"? What did you to add it?
