Airdrop for macbook pro 8.1

I have a macbook pro 8.1 running Yosemite.

I also have a iphone 6

My finder on macbook pro shows airdrop directory but I can never find my iphone on the network.

I have made sure bluetooth and wifi are on both devices.

I want to be able to air drop pictures from my iphone directly to my mac pro to do editing on the macbook without having to go thru itunes to move all pictures.

How do I make air drop work?

Unfortunately, to use AirDrop between a Mac and an iPhone, the Mac must be a 2012 or newer model. The MacBook Pro 8,1 is an early 2011 model. See the statement below from Use AirDrop to send content from your Mac - Apple Support

To send items to an iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, you need a 2012 or newer Mac model with OS X Yosemite or later, excluding the Mac Pro (Mid 2012).
