The benefit to utilizing Family Sharing instead of just signing into the same Apple ID is that Apple IDs are designed to identify one person. If you sign into the Apple ID in Settings > Messages or FaceTime or you are in the same iCloud account and Settings > Phone has some features turned on, all devices can potentially get the same calls, texts, etc. Suddenly your Christmas present conversation with the spouse becomes not so secret. There are many things sharing Apple IDs can give the other person/user access to, but those are just some of the top reasons why each person might need their own ID, since thats what it was designed for.

Feb 16, 2016 6:05 PM in response to Jay-Rayby GreatMandino,Thanks both of you for clearing it up. While I do not see my child using messages, notes, etc... FaceTime would be a solid driver for setting it up that way.
Thanks again for clearing it up for me so quickly. -
