webpage shrunk in Safari

I have a non-retina MacBook Pro (2012-mid, 13 inch) with OS X 10.11.

I found the Safari webpages were sometime shrunk. This problem comes with the first version of 10.11 and it still continues.

When Safari is showing some specific web pages, the pages shrink and look blurry.

I haven't found the trigger. Most happened when the cursor moving. But in some cases page action can also cause the problem.

I can't restore the page by refreshing or changing url to open another website. The only way to solve the problem is to open the page in a new tab.

It's very annoying!

It happens when I disable all extensions.

The problem never happened before 10.11. I once copied a Safari.app (same version) from a Mac with 10.9 to my Mac and It seems ok!

Chrome is ok on the same Mac. This problem only happens in Safari.

And this problem ever happened when I open Apple support communities page before I edit this post!

Try a restart.

Do a backup, using either Time Machine or a cloning program, to ensure files/data can be recovered. Two backups are better than one.

Try setting up another admin user account to see if the same problem continues. If Back-to-My Mac is selected in System Preferences, the Guest account will not work. The intent is to see if it is specific to one account or a system wide problem. This account can be deleted later.

Isolating an issue by using another user account

If the problem is still there, try booting into the Safe Mode using your normal account. Disconnect all peripherals except those needed for the test. Shut down the computer and then power it back up after waiting 10 seconds. Immediately after hearing the startup chime, hold down the shift key and continue to hold it until the gray Apple icon and a progress bar appear. The boot up is significantly slower than normal. This will reset some caches, forces a directory check, and disables all startup and login items, among other things. When you reboot normally, the initial reboot may be slower than normal. If the system operates normally, there may be 3rd party applications which are causing a problem. Try deleting/disabling the third party applications after a restart by using the application un-installer. For each disable/delete, you will need to restart if you don't do them all at once.

You are welcome. Is it one website or several?

Safari/Preferences/Advanced - enable the Develop menu, then go there and Empty Caches. Quit/reopen Safari and test. Then try Safari/History/Show History and delete all history items. Quit/reopen Safari and test. You can also try try Safari/Clear History…. The down side is it clears all cookies.Doing this may cause some sites to no longer recognize your computer as one that has visited the web site. Go to Finder and select your user/home folder. With that Finder window as the front window, either select Finder/View/Show View options or go command - J. When the View options opens, check ’Show Library Folder’. That should make your user library folder visible in your user/home folder. Select Library./Caches/com.apple.Safari/Caches.db and move it to the trash.

Go to Safari Preferences/Extensions and turn all extensions off. Test. If okay, turn the extensions on one by one until you figure out what extension is causing the problem.

It occurs on several websites.

I tried clean caches and disable extensions and plug-ins. It makes no difference.

I will back up the system and reinstall os x a few days later if it is convenient to me at the time. I have been meeting some odd safari bugs since 10.11. I hope reinstalling could fix at least some of them.

Update:

I found a solution. In case someone meet the same problem.

The problem only happens in full-screen mode and only in Safari. If the web page shrinks, quit the full-screen mode, and re-enter full-screen again, that's ok. The safari will adjust the width of webpage to proper size, to make it looks nice. The tab which shrunk webpage will never do that again, but if you start a new tab, the problem will happen again. That is still annoying.

I think it a bug caused by both safari in El Capitan and webpage structure, but as far as I know this only happens to me. I will test safari in Yosemite later if I have enough time.
