Battery removal/replacement?

My battery is 100% dead/non functional, and I have to keep the MacBook (Air, 2013) plugged in via AC adapter. What would happen if I just removed the battery altogether? I'm just curious--I've already ordered replacement, but I'm curious what would happen

MacBook Air, OS X El Capitan (10.11.3)
