Restart app shortcut in OS X

HI, I am having some problems with my Kodi setup at the moment and as a short-term solution I have been quitting the app and manually re-opening it.

I found that Kodi has a 'RestartApp' function, but apparently this is not compatible with OS X yet, so my question - is there an easier/quicker way to force an app to restart or 'soft reset' (i.e. assigning this command to a shortcut key)? I am currently running OS X El Capitan 10.11.3 on my MacBook Pro.
