Q: Wake up issue Apple TV 3

Just purchased January 2016. When I click the remote, the light comes on, but I get no audio or video to the tv. I have to unplug the power cord and plug it back in before I get any audio or video. I have tried it on different tvs and tried different HDMI cables, but I get the same result. I have the resolution set at 1080p @ 60hz. I also have an Apple TV 4 that wakes up just fine with no issues. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

    Hi DaveyD23,

If your Apple TV 3 is not waking from sleep properly, here are a few troubleshooting steps to address the issue:

    • Change the sleep setting so that it doesn't go to sleep as often
    • Try downloading the free Remote app to see if the issue is with your physical remote.
    • Restore your Apple TV 3 to factory settings.

Get help with your Apple Remote

Watch how the light on your Apple TV responds

When you click a button on your Apple Remote, a light on the front of your Apple TV usually flashes. Get help based on the pattern of the flashing light, or if your Apple TV doesn't flash at all.

If the light flashes three times in quick succession

Three quick flashes mean that your Apple TV is paired with a different remote. Follow these steps to unpairthe other remote, then pair your desired remote:

    1. Use any Apple Remote and hold down Menu and Left for six seconds. Then you should see Broken link icon  above a remote icon on your TV.
    2. With the Apple Remote that you want to pair, hold Menu and Right for six seconds. Then you should see a chainlink icon above a remote icon on your TV.

If the light flashes when you press buttons on your Apple Remote but nothing happens on your TV

    1. Hold the Menu and Down buttons on the Apple Remote to restart your Apple TV.
    2. If you still need help after the restart, unplug your Apple TV from the power outlet. Wait at least six seconds, then plug it back in.

If the light doesn't flash each time or at all when you press buttons on your Apple Remote

If the light on your Apple TV doesn't flash and you see an icon of an exclamation point on your TV screen, replace the battery in your Apple Remote.

Set up Remote for your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

Restore your Apple TV to its factory settings

    Take care,
