When you go to Numbers in dock and right click on it, it shows recent items for quicker access, only it is not showing recent items it is showing older items and is not updating to show the recent items. Does anyone know how to add an item to this list or remove an item from this list? I have tried everything I can think of to no avail.
iMac (21.5-inch, Late 2013), OS X Yosemite (10.10.2)
Try this:
With Numbers open, go: File (menu) > Open Recent > Clear menu (at the bottom of the list).
Quit Numbers.
On the Dock, Right click the Numbers icon and choose Remove from Dock
OR Click and hold on the Numbers icon and drag it away from the Dock, then release the mouse button.
Relaunch Numbers from the Launchpad, from Recent items in the Apple menu, or by double clicking its icon in your Applications folder.
Right click on the Numbers icon in the Dock, and choose Keep on Dock.
Optional: Drag the icon to a different position on the Dock if desired.

I've seen the same behavior. If those older items still appear when you "right click" the Numbers icon in the Dock, even after you've tried 'Clear Menu', then what worked here is to restart the Dock by opening Terminal and typing this: killall Dock

Thank you, this is exactly what I tried before posting to no avail. I finally thought to restart the computer and that did the trick in addition to the steps you provided. Much happier to have the true recent items there. Thanks.
I did not actually have to get to this point because the previous suggestion combined with restarting the computer fixed the problem. Thanks for the suggestion.
