Q: Why is my Apple TV showing the wrong LIVE feed?

I live outside of Chicago, and just made the switch from AT&T Uverse to Comcast for internet. Our family is trying to ditch cable and just use the Apple TV for our television viewing.(sharing a log-in with a family member)

The problem I am having is when I go into any app on my Apple TV (ABC, Disney, ESPN) and view the LIVE programming the "On Now" shows what is live in my area but when I select it, it gives me a West Coast feed. For example the ABC app show on the Live programing list what is currently on here in Chicagoland, but when I try to view it, it shows me ABC7 from Santa Clara, CA.

I talked with Apple, they said its a Comcast issue. I talked with Comcast, they have no clue. Most of the time when I talk with someone they don't even understand what an Apple TV is or how it works. I talk with the Hardware people, they say its a Comcast issue...round and round I go.

When I did have AT&T I never had this issue, so I'm guessing it's either a Comcast or hardware issue. I have the same issue on both of my Apple TVs, which also leads me to believe that it's not an issue with the Apple TV. Both Apple TVs work fine when I am on a different network (at my office).

I have checked the location settings on both Apple TVs. I have done factory default restores on both Apple TVs. I have done the factory default restores on the modem and the router. I had a NETGEAR router, returned it and purchased a AirPort Extreme, still the same problem. Nothing worked.

For another test I subscribed to CBS All Access and did not link it to cable log in. It shows the LIVE feed from KWCH...Wichita, KS

When I use the Watch ABC (or any other) app on my iPad or iPhone, everything works fine. It's just while on the 2 Apple TVs I have.

any ideas?

It won't be Apple or Comcast to change it.  Apps are developed and supported by the content owner. ABC, CBS etc will ultimately make the decision as to which shows are available for streaming and when.  The cable provider info is only used to validate access to the app (I.e. There is a paid sucbscription)  It has no bearing on the settings for the Apple TV device.  I would recommend posing the questions to ABC or CBS...

If it's up to the app developer, then why would it work fine (show my local programming) on my iPad & iPhone and not my Apple TV? Why would it show local programming on the same Apple TV while I am on a different network at my office (same town)? Why would it have worked just fine when I had AT&T?

Do the app developers have different settings built is depending on what network you are connected to? Like they let things work on AT&T but they don't let things work if you are on Comcast?

yes, that's when the problem started. I switched from AT&T to Comcast and purchased my own equipment. I had a Netgear router exchanged that for an AirPort Extreme, still the same problem.

When I was on AT&T everything worked fine. Switching to Comcast and now its messed up.

Although iOS and tvOS have the same look/feel, they are different operating systems. Due to this difference the content owners had to develop new apps for tvOS. This is why not all apps for iOS are available on tvOS. Now it could certainly be a bug in the app (which the content owner would need to update) but it could also be "working as designed".

Take a look at the lino below and scroll down to the section "live streaming". It talks about the "live feed" being based upon location.  These could vary from app to app depending on the content owners development...

I understand that the live feed is based on location. Like I said before it worked perfectly fine at my current location when I had AT&T, now that I switched to Comcast it does not. It works perfectly fine at my office (in the same town) but not at my house. Same issue, 2 different Apple TVs, both work as they should on other networks, both don't function properly on my new Comcast network. No one knows why.

Do you have any issues with wifi only devices showing the correct locations on those networks.
