what is apple doing for the 1970 case?

I set my iOS device to January 1, 1970...
Apple does not yet have a fix for iPads. Took my son's device to genius bar yesterday and they said wait for us to come up with a fix or buy a new iPad.
I Have an iPad with this issue, do you know if they tried with the battery unplug solution? Sorry for my bad english
Apple have now released a fix for this issue:
