Q: Fan goes crazy after El Capitan clean install

Hi all,

A couple of days ago I formatted my drive and clean installed El Capitan. I'm starting to regret this... The fan just keeps turning on very high revs - e.g. this very moment it's 6500 r/min and it doesn't slow down. The thing is that this almost never happened on Yosemite - only when playing computer games with somewhat better graphics. I've installed Macs Fan Control and could set the fan speed to some manual level but I'm afraid it's going to hurt my computer.

Does anyone know any fixes to this issue? Any way to adjust the fan speed? [p.s. the battery also supports the system for much shorter time under El Capitan than it used to do under Yosemite]. What the **** Apple???

....or should I just go back to Yosemite...?

MacBook Air (13-inch Mid 2013), OS X El Capitan (10.11.3)

    Try resetting the SMC

On Mac notebooks with non-removable battery

Mac notebook computers that have a battery you should not remove include: MacBook Pro (Early 2009) and later, all models of MacBook Air, MacBook (Late 2009), and MacBook (Retina, 12-inch, Early 2015).

    To reset the SMC:

    1. Shut down the computer.
    2. Plug in the MagSafe or USB-C power adapter to a power source and to your computer.
    3. On the built-in keyboard, press the (left side) Shift-Control-Option keys and the power button at the same time.
    4. Release all the keys and the power button at the same time.
    5. Press the power button to turn on the computer.

On MagSafe power adapters, the LED might change states or temporarily turn off when you reset the SMC.

Thanks Mike, this seems to have worked for now. But the fan is now slowly picking up speed, i.e. at the beginning it was very quiet and now it is becoming louder and louder. Should I keep repeating the same steps over again?? Any idea about the reason for this behavior of the fan?

ZipCloud is adware.  You need to uninstall it according to the developer's instructions.  You can find them here.  I don't know what MEGAsync is, but a quick search in Google doesn't look promising.  This thread tells you how to uninstall it  --> what is mega sync

I don't have ZipCloud. I guess it says so in the report I pasted but I removed it a couple of days ago, right after I accidentally installed it. I can't find the file anywhere in the system now - tried spotlight, found nothing.

Megasync works just like Dropbox, Copy, Google Cloud, etc. It works fine with mac and there's lots of space for free.

You didn't uninstall it properly, there are still pieces of it although they're not loaded. Try MalwareBytes http://www.adwaremedic.com/index.php

You have to uninstall things according to the developer's instructions.  In order to remove it properly, you now have to reinstall it, then uninstall it according to the directions provided in the link I gave you.

OK, thanks. I'll try to remove google accounts and to the system reboot and see how that works. Thanks for the link. I'll see if this fixes the problem.

    Hello Bart,

The CPU usage in your EtreCheck clearly shows where the problem is. Are you using Google contact syncing? People in this forum (http://forums.macrumors.com/threads/constantly-high-cpu-usage-soagent-callservic esd.1894835/) reported that disabling Google contact syncing resolved the problem.
