Feb 19, 2016 6:28 AM in response to SusanJPCby alex_h1,Hello SusanJPC,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
I'm sorry to hear about the troubles you're having with the FaceTime camera on your iPad. To troubleshoot this issue I'd like you to please follow through the steps outlined below.
You see a closed lens or black screen
If you see a closed lens or black screen when you open the Camera app, try these steps:
- Make sure that there’s nothing blocking the camera lens. If you’re using a case, try removing it.
- Force the app to close, then open the Camera app again.
- Restart your device, then open the Camera app again.
- If your device has a front and rear camera, try both cameras by tapping
. If you see the closed lens or black screen on only one camera, take your device to an Apple Retail Store or Authorized Service Provider for more help.
Get help with the camera on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
Cheers.

Feb 22, 2016 5:05 AM in response to davidfromkimberleyby MichelPM,Ever try a hard reset of your iPad by holding down both the Home and sleep/wake buttons simultaneously until your iPad goes to black and restarts with Apple logo, then release the buttons?
Good Luck! -

Feb 23, 2016 4:58 AM in response to alex_h1by Skimedicine, having same issues with IPad 2 since I updated to 9.2.1. Took it to Apple service centre, they completed a firm ware update as well, still not working.
in camera mode if you try to switch from back to front the camera either displays a frozen image from the back camera or just cycles to the back camera.
tech response is "Must be a broken camera, I can sell you a replacement".

Feb 23, 2016 5:15 AM in response to Skimedicineby davidfromkimberley,I think there must be a problem within the software the camera isn't broken or defective because it started happening to me after the latest update. At this stage it is working again. I was wondering if face-time haven't got something to do with it because it fail to switch to the front camera to use face-time. Just a wild guest.

Feb 24, 2016 11:20 PM in response to Skimedicineby davidfromkimberley,Last night when someone tried to Face-time me the camera did not want to change to the front camera, so I think there is a link between the face-time and the fact that it just go blank on the front one. Please fix this problem and they can really check the software. I am going to take the iPad back to the iStore next week for them to check it out.
