Feb 17, 2016 8:01 PM in response to Wm Gilesby Niel,Back up your data, click here, and read the entire page. Mac OS X 10.7 and newer don't support PowerPC software such as Microsoft Office 2004; some other installed software may also be incompatible.

Feb 17, 2016 8:36 PM in response to Wm Gilesby den.thed,It is getting pretty late in the game for a Mid 2007 iMac, but you can update to the latest OS X if you really wanted or needed to.
you need to purchase 10.6 Snow Leopard > http://www.apple.com/shop/product/MC573Z/A/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
update it to 10.6.8 using the > Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1
and setup an App Store account.
then you can get either > http://www.apple.com/shop/product/D6106Z/A/os-x-lion
or optionally go to the App Store and for free get > Upgrade to OS X El Capitan - Apple Support
