Feb 18, 2016 4:12 AM in response to furfingby K Shaffer,Some models of computer don't support full resolution, or others aren't
supported to the same specification one may expect for quality...
What model and build year of portable are you using? The retina may
be a stretch to try and use, depending on the graphic hardware in mac.
A special adapter may be required, so that is an added expense. see:
http://www.apple.com/shop/product/MB571LL/A/mini-displayport-to-dual-link-dvi-ad apter
Claims: Compatible with Mac computers with Mini DisplayPort and Thunderbolt ports
And the latest display model with Thunderbolt may exceed your MacBook specs.
So you may have to compare elsewhere for something to replace Cinema.
One appears to be all there is at Apple, the 27-inch Thunderbolt:

Good luck!
