If your MacBook won't locate any Wi-Fi networks, try starting up in safe mode to see if the same thing happens--OS X El Capitan: Start up in safe mode. The steps at this link apply to previous OS X versions, too.
You can also try the steps in How to troubleshoot Wi-Fi connectivity in OS X Lion or earlier or Use Wireless Diagnostics to help you resolve Wi-Fi issues on your Mac for OS X Mountain Lion or later.
