Trying to burn a 468 photo slideshow with music in iDVD. Photos and transitions load fine but iDVD locks up when trying to encode. Running 10.11.3 on 2010 iMac. What am I doing wrong?

OT - sorry I haven't gotten back to you sooner but I have been trying to get problem resolved by myself. (to utter frustration). I am trying to burn a slideshow using images from several cameras taken over a several year timeframe. I wanted to use these images to augment my current project as it is a personal travelogue and the old photos were to be "fillers". In desperation I tried using different titles, music and transitions and using fewer photos all of which were shot with the newest camera. Still no success as the burn would hang-up early in the encoding sequence. I had followed your advice and tried to create a "disk image" and then burn to DVD but the project would stop as soon as the title, photos and transitions loaded. Now the irony of all this is that I made two test DVDs using other images, created disk images of both and they both burned without a hiccup. I've got to be doing something wrong or stupid. Original project was 468 images, a title, transitions and music. Both successful test projects were about 30 images, titles, transitions and music.

To answer your last question, I've got 75GB free on my boot drive.

Do you mean stopped during the creation of the disk image?

Both successful test projects were about 30 images, titles, transitions and music.

Were the images some of the same images you're using in the original project?

As a test duplicate the project file and open the duplicate file. Delete 1/2 of the images in the slideshow and see if you can get further into the save as disk image than before. If you can remade the duplication process and delete only the 1st 1/4 of the images in the slideshow and test again. Maybe there's a damage image file that is causing the problem the this will help locate it.

ALSO, what transition are you using? Try chaining it to another transition and see if you can get a disk image created.

When I said "stopped", I meant froze up and the colored beachball started spinning so had to quit iDVD (not responding) thus losing all my DVD project work. This happened when I was "creating disk image" with troubled project.

The two successful DVDs were created using completely different images than the travelogue I'm having the problem with. The point you brought up about a bad file makes me wonder - I did use some photos from my iPhone 5s when I tried to do the disk image using some files from the 468 slide show. Maybe they're the culprits...

Have you considered replacing iDVD?

Absolutely, as soon as it was discontinued.

I recommend dropping iDVD and Googling "IDVD replacement"

For moral, ethical, and security, reasons I don't use Google, but I have searched the Internet high and low. I have found and purchased several alternatives.

and you will find several products that have filled that product gap.

After trying several products and remaining active on a variety of forms I have found nothing that comes anywhere near the power and ease of use of iDVD, (on the Mac). In our organization, we have dedicated several Macs running OS 10.9.5 that we use for our video work.

I would love to find something equivalent, but it doesn't exist.
