Display Alerts in Full-Screen Mode

Is there any way to display the OS X notification center toast alerts when you are in a full-screen app? I almost always work in full-screen for everything, so I would like for the notifications to appear above my active screen instead of on the desktop that I don't really use. I'm missing alerts 😟.
