Q: downloads folder

I had a downloads folder that was on my desktop toolbar and I thought I was moving one document and accidentally moved the whole folder and it is now gone from my toolbar.  I can't find it and every time I try to put the regular downloads folder on my toolbar its not the same.  The one that used to be there--all the downloads would go right to it and i could hover my mouse over it and the most recent downloads would pop right up, and if i clicked on it I could search for one I was looking for...  Does anyone know what I'm talking about and how to get it back?

Go to your Home folder where you will find a folder named, "Downloads." Drag it into the Dock just to the left of Trash but on the right side of the sizing bar.

Did you have 2 downloads folders then?

    Hi

You can do a search in the finder to find your downloads folder.

    1. Open up the finder and click on the search button on right hand corner

    2. type in Downloads

    3. Click the little + sign near where it says " Search This Mac, 'folder'"

4.On the drop-down menu next to 'kind' click on it and click "Folder".

The Finder should do a search for your downloads folder. Also on the bottom when you select one folder, in the bottom of the finder it will tell you the path.

I just tried it. It's a simple drag and drop. Open finder, go to your user folder, and drag the download folder down on the dock where you want it. This also works for all the other folders, like movies and music. I am on Mac OS X 10.6.8 Snow Leopard. What version of OS X are you using? (I would imagine they didn't change this behaviour...)

it's not the same folder that was there before.  the one you're talking about doesn't have a search option and doesn't have the most recent download on top... thank you though.

Just use the options to change it. This is not rocket science. There is only one Downloads folder in your Home folder.

See if there's a little oval at the top right of that window, if so click on it!

What options?  When I move the "only" downloads folder to the dock, and open it up it is just a big square with some of my downloaded documents... there is no settings, there is no oval anywhere, there is nowhere to change it.  For someone who knows everything there is to know about a Mac it may be easy, but I am new to Mac and don't know how to fix what I did...which is why I posted here, not for someone to try to make me feel dumb for not knowing how to do something.  isn't that what these forums are for?  to help each other figure things out when someone doesn't know how to do something??  what options should i use to change it?  there is no button, there is no "options" , there is nothing but a window with a handful of my documents.  there is not even a way to enlarge that window.

okay, so when i right click it nothing comes up for me to change the display of how it opens...or how documents load into it.  so that is the only other way i can access it, or try to change it.

Right click on the Downloads folder in the Dock, you should see Options, as well as how to sort & view.

Double click on that icon should open a Finder Window with Search & such.

Thank you.  I appreciate you trying to help and not being demeaning.  Anyway, I did see how I could change the way it was displayed, but it's still not the same as before...but better than it was, so thank you!
