Q: iCloud won't sync documents

I've got pages/keynote/numbers documents in iCloud but suddenly everything has stopped working across all devices. Nothing will upload and nothing will download.

When I go to iCloud.com i get the error "Pages is locked: Due to account maintenance, Pages is currently unavailable." Despite this I can't find anyone complaining about the same thing and the iCloud service status thing says its online and working fine.

I've tried signing out of iCloud on OSX but now when i sign back in its just stuck on "Setting up iCloud drive".

In the settings on the iCloud website it says "Storage: 4.93GB of 5GB available". On my desktop it says "2.97GB of 5GB available". On the iPhone it says "3GB available" and where it lists how the 2GB is used the only thing listed is 71MB for mail.

Everything else (mail, calendars, contacts) apart from the iCloud drive is working.

Any idea what the heck is going on?

Things I've tried:

  • Signing out of iCloud
  • Adding text to document to force sync it
  • Creating new files
  • Syncing manually via cable to iTunes
  • Updating OS (everything is up to date)
  • Restoring files in (iCloud > advanced) results in "there was a problem loading files"

If the problem is still there, try booting into the Safe Mode using your normal account.  Disconnect all peripherals except those needed for the test. Shut down the computer and then power it back up after waiting 10 seconds. Immediately after hearing the startup chime, hold down the shift key and continue to hold it until the gray Apple icon and a progress bar appear. The boot up is significantly slower than normal. This will reset some caches, forces a directory check, and disables all startup and login items, among other things. When you reboot normally, the initial reboot may be slower than normal. If the system operates normally, there may be 3rd party applications which are causing a problem. Try deleting/disabling the third party applications after a restart by using the application un-installer. For each disable/delete, you will need to restart if you don't do them all at once.

I've had the same issue pop up recently. pages, number etc

i'm not sure what a third party application on a local machine would have to do with the iCloud service though

This happens to me across multiple devices, mac and pc
