Standing not registered

I can see many have a problem with the standing calculation on apple watch and it seams many are sitting down and getting up when the watch tells them to without it registering the stand time. I have that issue too.

However I have worked in a cafe and many days I was running around in circles for 10 hours straight and there were STILL plenty of hours on my watch that it din´t register. A bit enoying to run around in a fast pace and the get told that I'm not doing anything.

I hope apple makes a better calibration for the next soft wear update.....

It may help to check the following set of troubleshooting steps, which include some differences compared with my previous reply in 2016:

For the purpose of crediting the hourly Stand achievement, your Apple Watch aims to identify when you have stood up and moved around for at least one minute during that hour.

Apple Watch uses an accelerometer to identify movement, so arm movement equivalent to changing from a seated to a standing position followed by a minute's walk around with your arms swinging naturally should help to register this.

If you believe that you have met this requirement, but Stand credits are still not being awarded, it may help to follow these steps, which have previously resolved the same issue for other users:

If you have not yet done so, update your iPhone and Apple Watch to the latest software, starting with your iPhone:

On your iPhone in the Watch app, go to: My Watch (tab) > Passcode > check that Wrist Detection is turned on.

  • Note that Wrist Detection can be affected by temporary or permanent skin changes, such as by some wrist tattoos.
  • Stand credit will not be awarded unless Wrist Detection is enabled.

If Passcode is enabled, check that you are unlocking your watch each day after placing it on your wrist and that you are wearing your watch sufficiently snugly (neither too tightly nor too loosely).

On your iPhone, in the Watch app, to go: My Watch > Health.

  • If the setting for Wheelchair currently states "Not Set", then tap on Edit (upper-right) > tap on "Not Set" and change it to "No" (options are shown in the bottom area of the screen) > tap on Done (upper-right).

On your iPhone, in the Watch app, go to: My Watch > Privacy - turn Fitness Tracking off.

Restart both devices by turning both off together, then restarting your iPhone first:

Re-enable Fitness Tracking.

It may also help to calibrate your Apple Watch, including resetting any existing calibration data:

Calibrating your Apple Watch for improved Workout and Activity accuracy - Apple Support

Activity-related estimations also depend, in part, on your personal information. To check that this is accurate - and to update it over time:

On your iPhone, in the Watch app, go to: My Watch (tab) > Health > Edit - tap and adjust items, then tap on Done.

If the issue persists, then I suggest that you contact Apple Support (remote diagnostics and/or mail-in service may be available, if required), make a Genius Bar reservation or visit an Apple Authorised Service Provider for assistance:

If you still wish to return your Apple Watch, then:

Subject to its return policies, Apple only accepts products for exchange or refund that have been purchased directly from Apple.

For an Apple Watch that has been purchased directly from Apple:

  • Apple's Standard Return Policy varies by country, but is typically 14 days.
  • Apple's Holiday Return Policy may apply:

In the US, for example, this currently allows items purchased at the Apple Online Store and received between 15 November and 25 December 2017 to be returned up to 8 January 2018.

More information and instructions, including in respect of gift returns, are available here (for the US, for example):

Returns & Refunds - Shopping Help - Apple

If you are in a different country, then check the corresponding page for your location.

Other retailers' return policies may vary.

Hi

The hourly Stand goal is achieved when you stand up and also move around for at least one minute during that hour.

Apple Watch uses an accelerometer to identify movement, so a minute's walk around with your arm (on which you are wearing your watch) swinging naturally should help to achieve this.

Repeat this within each of 12 separate hours throughout the day to achieve the daily Stand goal.

Calibrating your watch can improve the accuracy of various estimations made by both the Activity app and the Workout app. Calibration helps the watch to learn how your arm moves when you are walking and/or running at different speeds. Instructions for calibrating your watch are available via the link below.

If the Activity app has been set up and you are getting Stand reminders, but your watch is not registering any stand activity at all, these steps may help:

  • On your iPhone in the Watch app, go to: My Watch > General > Wrist Detection - check that this is turned on.
  • On your iPhone, in the Watch app, go to: My Watch > Privacy > Motion & Fitness - turn Fitness Tracking off (or turn it on, if it is already turned off).
  • Restart both devices by turning both off together, then restarting your iPhone first:
    • To turn your iPhone off: press and hold the Sleep/Wake button until the red slider appears; drag it to turn off. To restart, press and hold the Sleep/Wake button.
    • To turn your watch off: press and hold the side button until you see the Power Off slider; drag it to turn off. To turn it back on: press and hold the side button until you see the Apple logo.
  • If you turned Fitness Tracking off in step 2, now return to the setting and re-enable it.
