Q: I changed my Apple ID and now my iMessages does not work. It is still using the old Apple ID and I cannot use the old password for it because it is not active. Is it possible to change it?

Is there any way to change the Apple ID username on iMessage for the iMessage account?

MacBook Pro with Retina display, iOS 9.2.1

    Hi,

    Use the Sign Out button.

This will still show the Old Apple ID but can be typed over and new one added.

You can go one stage further in going to ~/Library/Preferences and deleting the com.apple.ids.service.com.apple.madrid.plist file.

This will delete the Apple ID in use in iMessages and any linked iPhone Numbers and other emails added to the set up.
