How can I get OSX 10.11.3 to sync with iPhone 4S IOS 9.1?
My Mac (now using 10.11.3) will no longer sync with my iPhone 4S (now using IOS 9.1). What is wrong? How can I fix this problem?

You have the most current OS X version - good. ...
Do you have the latest iTunes (12.3.2)?
If not, get it from the App Store > Updates or directly from http://www.apple.com/itunes/download
I do have latest iTunes. (but I am not resting to sync iTunes. I am trying to sync calendar)
Is your device not recognized by iTunes?

Or is your sync issue Calendar-specific? If it's calendar specific, what application houses your calendar (e.g., iCloud)?
I am only trying to sync Calendar. Sorry, I don't understand your second question -- to me (non-techie) my Calendar IS an app; it is "housed" on My mac and on my iPhone .
OK, I'll re-explain what I mean.
While your iPhone is plugged into iTunes on your computer, in iTunes, click "Info" on the left vertical bar under your iPhone's icon and "Settings".
You should see some instructions there about how the calendar gets synced. In my case, it looks like this:
I use iCloud calendars, so that when I make a change in any Apple device I own, all my other Apple devices receive the change.

It took me quite a while to match your clear instructions to the confused reality of my trying to do something new with my MC. But I succeeded. Thank you!
Delighted to hear you've been successful!
Enjoy your Apple gear.
