Q: audio loss mavericks after flash update? feb 2016

woke up a few days ago, turned on 2011 macbook pro mavericks, switched on youtube, audio dropped... tried all other apps vlc quicktime audirvana, all lost audio.... eventually found that putting it to sleep and waking it brought audio back, its now doing this very often, every other vid or app loses audio requiring a re-wake from sleep. its happening on two macs, anybody know whats going on... i suspect a flash update is to blame but its such a vague intermittent problem. retty frustrating to have to wake from sleep every tune i pick.

MacBook Pro, OS X Mavericks (10.9.5)

    Try un-installing and then re-installing.

    Adobe Flash Uninstaller

    Adobe Flash Player

thanks i tried that, and somehow it seems to have worked, even though the uninstall itself failed.... its strangely hard to find how to uninstall

.... anyway i found it somewhere on adobe-esque site... then did a restart,,, and adobe flash was still installed...lol....it does seem to have stopped the audio drop i failed to mention before its happened on both my macs running mavericks, so i will have to try the fix on my mbp later... did i just call trying to uninstal something and failing but it correcting the problem a fix....

i just  managed to uninstall and re-instal flash, i'll have to wait to see if it works as i went several hours last night without audio loss after failing to uninstall it, i also just noticed, when i failed before i opened chrome browser and disabled the pepper flash for that browser... just reenabled today in fact... maybe thats the source of the problem? i've had issues with chrome and pepper before. i will post again if this reinstall works

ps. which brings me full circle or fool circle... i originally started using chrome because safarii decided it would no longer play 1080p youtube videos..... everything else? fine youtube, 720p max.... after loads of research and 4 or 5 failed attempts i managed to get my 2011 mbp to get 1080p, but my old mac pro is still suffering from this, i don't even know what fixed the laptop i tried so many things none of which worked immediately hence my confusion. is there a surefire fix, then i can just dump chrome. sorry to hijack my own thread,

    Try a restart.

Do a backup, using either Time Machine or a cloning program, to ensure files/data can be recovered. Two backups are better than one.

Try setting up another admin user account to see if the same problem continues. If Back-to-My Mac is selected in System Preferences, the Guest account will not work. The intent is to see if it is specific to one account or a system wide problem. This account can be deleted later.

Isolating an issue by using another user account

If the problem is still there, try booting into the Safe Mode using your normal account.  Disconnect all peripherals except those needed for the test. Shut down the computer and then power it back up after waiting 10 seconds. Immediately after hearing the startup chime, hold down the shift key and continue to hold it until the gray Apple icon and a progress bar appear. The boot up is significantly slower than normal. This will reset some caches, forces a directory check, and disables all startup and login items, among other things. When you reboot normally, the initial reboot may be slower than normal. If the system operates normally, there may be 3rd party applications which are causing a problem. Try deleting/disabling the third party applications after a restart by using the application un-installer. For each disable/delete, you will need to restart if you don't do them all at once.

yikes this is a long fix, and even then it might not identify the problem, i have researched the loss of 1080p on youtubes, its a common issue, i can only imagine its triggered by an update from apple or adobe, its soul destroying issue because its so hapless and undefined. the fix i used on my macbook didnt seem to work at all, then started working, though i wouldnt be surprised if its stopped just as randomly, i forget the fix, something about forcing safari to use highest quality available from youtube specifically, so its a problem so widespread a workaround has been created?... but... i mean seriously this fix is gigantic... i will give it a go now,
