question mark folder in start

question mark folder at start up I tried holding alt+r for recovery when I turned Mac back on and I got nothing I also tried command+r and nothing happened please help

I don't have the start up disk available to me

iPhone 6 Plus, iOS 8.4

The question mark at startup indicates your computer cannot find the startup volume. Please carefully read OS X: About OS X Recovery - Apple Support , if you cannot boot into the Recovery Partition or your normal startup volume this indicates you likely have a failed drive. Because we have no idea what iMac you own, the next thing to do would be to take the computer in for repair at your local Apple Store or Apple Authorized Service Provider. If you don't know of any AASPs in your area please click https://locate.apple.com/country.
