Q: iPhone 5 with 9.2.1 NEW battery drains ONLY overnight

Over the last few weeks my iPhone battery has been draining overnight. It will be at 55% and the next morning completely dead. Took it to Apple they replaced my battery under warranty cause I replaced it in November and reset network and device settings. Last night it had about 33% and I woke up to it completely dead. I had no apps running. During the day it doesn't drain in standby.  It will maintain 100% in standby during the day. Is there a bug in 9.2.1?

No. Do you happen to have the Facebook app installed?

Could be any number of things. A 'stuck' Exchange account will tend to do that. Look in Settings>Battery. See what's causing the drain.

You should plug your phone in overnight, every night. And enable iCloud backups. When the phone is connected to power and WiFi it will automatically back up once a day. I realize that doesn't explain why it is draining the battery, but it's still a good idea. And it will cure the symptom, if not the disease.

Yesss...I have exactly the same issue. First I thought it was a charging cable failure. I've already replace with a new battery and brought it to Apple service center. They said there was nothing wrong with the device's component. Still have same issue though. Can't wait for a new update

What makes you think a new update will resolve your issue? Read the responses here and do some troubleshooting on your own.

I Think something is wrong with Safari. I have 37 minutes on screen but it consumed 79% of the battery. Music was next with 37 background and 11%. The next six entries  were below 3%. last night in 7 hours it dropped from 54 to 10 percent

If you open a page in Safari that automatically updates then Safari will do exactly that, and use energy to do it. Close all of your Safari tabs and the battery drain should stop. It's also a good idea to go to Settings/Safari and clear the cache and user data. But closing the tabs should fix the problem.

Why? Because I've tried all possible tips and it's still do no good. Here's the story: a week ago, I charged the device inside car. Suddenly it won't charged and the lightning cable was burning hot and had become completely useless. I switched the cable. It works perfectly. But since that happened, my iPhone battery life is drains quickly, especially during a sleep mode, and charged slowly. I replaced with a new battery, did some factory restore twice, had it checked to Apple (they said there was nothing wrong with the component inside the device), did all the tips and....my iPhone battery still drains quickly. So, my last hope is waiting for a new software update. That's why.

It's clear that you don't have "exactly the same issue." Whatever happened in the car probably damaged something inside the phone. And if you replaced the battery, rather than having Apple do it, there's a good chance you did additional damage.

Be that as it may, the problem is not caused by the iOS version.  So you can wait for a new update, but it won't solve the problem. From what you have said you haven't done any troubleshooting. If you go to Settings/Battery, which app is using the most energy? Have you even done that check?

I'm trying to re-calibrate the battery as now I cannot give such information yet. I'll let you know soon. Last I remember, I did using Safari for 33 mins whic took 47% of activity. That was after I have did twice a factory reset for my iPhone. And it still drained, like I mention above. After re-calibrate I will installed Whatsapp app only and see if they do some change.

Despite of that, what are the chances that there are something damaged the hardware inside it? Is it the logic board? Or something else?

    Thanks before

Most battery issues are either a failing battery or an app; hardware failures usually don't manifest as battery life problems. However, the car charger apparently zapped something; you mentioned the cable, but it could have also damaged something inside. And, as the problems appeared so soon after your car mishap, it could be a hardware issue. My money is still on software, however, especially as Apple has tested the hardware and found it good.

You can try disabling things that update in real time, such as iCloud drive, photos, contacts, calendar, notes and email (just as a test). Go to Settings/iCloud and turn off everything except Find my iPhone. If you have a Microsoft Exchange email account that can also cause battery drain if the phone's database gets out of sync with the Exchange server. So if you have one turn it off also. If turning these off for a day fixes the problem try turning them on one at a time. Frequently leaving them off for a few hours will resolve any transient problems.
