Q: Apple external Thunderbolt display not hot pluggable on 2015 MacBook Pro (Retina) in Windows 10 Bootcamp
I've read a bunch of posts on older hardware and older versions of Windows but I can't seem to corroborate issues that I'm having w/ an external Apple thunderbolt display and Windows 10. My setup is 2015 15" MBP retina w/ external Apple monitor w/ usb keyboard & mouse attached to the monitor as well as ethernet--all of the peripherals are fed to the MBP via the monitor's thunderbolt connection.
If I boot Win10 w/ the thunderbolt display attached all works as expected but if I disconnect the monitor and reconnect it later none of the attached peripherals work (keyboard, mouse, ethernet) but the monitor will display picture. All the USB ports are rendered inert on both the monitor and the MBP itself after reconnecting the monitor as well. If I try to enable/disable the ethernet adapter in the device manager it will hang and if I try a reboot or shutdown Windows hangs during the reboot/shutdown and I am forced to hold the power button down until the unit powers off.
According to this, thunderbolt devices are allegedly hot pluggable:
1. Are Thunderbolt devices “hot pluggable” using Windows with Boot Camp?
Thunderbolt hot plug is supported under Windows 8 or 8.1 on all 2014 and later Mac computers.
For all other Mac computers, Windows 7, 8, and 8.1 scans and activates Thunderbolt devices connected to Thunderbolt ports only during the Windows startup process. If your device was not plugged in at start up, Windows will not detect it without a restart
That part of the support article doesn't specify what thunderbolt devices are hot pluggable but I would think their own hardware would be. Anyone else experiencing this behavior?
