i am aware of what you are saying about extensions and that some of what you list should be there in my list however there not displayed. in the extensions options box that comes up which is part of settings in the lefthand pane of that box it says PHOTOS not enabled , I'm not sure what has happened but an os update may be to blame as i seem to remember this problem occurring after that.

photos not listed in my preference pane , think that i will have to reinstall photos i do remember now that it was there but disappeared after the last os update that i did. have looked through my options but I'm not sure how to get photos listed back in that pane, cannot find a reinstall for photos as it is not listed as an app. therefore i assume its part of el capitan.

To reinstall I would boot into the recovery partition and reinstall from there. That will ensure that all system components will get reinstalled. It is more complete than reinstalling with the combo updater.

To reinstall from Recovery see this help page:

OS X: About OS X Recovery - Apple Support

To start your computer from Recovery, restart your Mac and hold down the Command and R keys at startup.

User uploaded file

Hold these keys until the Apple logo appears. After your computer finishes starting up, you should see a desktop with an OS X menu bar and an OS X Utilities window with the options listed above. If you see a login window or your own desktop instead of the Utilities window, it's possible that you didn't press Command-R early enough. Restart your computer and try again.

Choose the option you want to use from the Utilities window or the Utilities menu.

In order to reinstall OS X, you need to be connected to the Internet using Ethernet or Wi-Fi. If you're using a wireless Internet connection, click the Wi-Fi menu in the upper-right corner of the screen to select a nearby Wi-Fi network. Choose your preferred network name and enter a username and password to join the network if needed.
