I am over the limit for Calendar events. What do I do?

My Calendar events are not syncing to and from my desktop and my iOS devices. When I try to enter and event via iCloud using Safari, I get the message that I have exceeded the iCloud quota which I believe is 25,000 events. I would like to archive events from the last year(s) of my calendar to get under the quota but I don't see a way to configure the archive file with specific date range. I don't want to delete events because I want access to those events should I need it. Any ideas out there on how to make this happen?
