iPhone4s will not sync to my Laptop Windows10

My previous laptop was used to backup my Apple devices. Recently the laptop died and I switched to my wife's laptop to perform the backups. I can still backup up Apple devices, but they will not perform the sync function of the backup. msg reads, (The iPhone "********" cannot be synced. An unknown error occurred ((-54)). Can anyone help with my problem?
