Mac OS XDo you use a Mac or Windows PC? If Windows, what version?
When you connect the iPod, watch the iPod's screen. Does it say "Do not disconnect" or "Connected" or give some other indication of being connected? Or does it only show the battery charging symbol? Or does not not react at all to being connected?

Mac OS XThat means there is no data connection, just a power connection. Some things to try. The USB docking cable may be faulty; if possible, try using a different cable. Try connecting to another USB port, if your computer has other USB ports.
If you have not already, do a Reset (restart) on the iPod
Learn how to reset your iPod - Apple Support
then connect it to the computer.
