The HD (actually SSD) "memory" has your operating system (10.11) installed on it so it's not empty; you likely have other files too and 128GB of storage is not hard to fill up. When you click on About this Mac in the Apple menu and then click "Storage" what does it show?

That shows that your SSD is filled with files you've saved, mostly media files (Movies, audio and photos). To get some room back, you need to transfer them to some other storage media. While you could get a variety of external drives, you could, for example, get this Flash drive, which is twice the size of your internal drive, for $60.

Try downloading and running OmniDiskSweeper https://www.omnigroup.com/more . It will list all your files by size and show you want is using up all the space.

Also see this review on OmniDiskSweeper https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZT2Bz1VIfRw showing how it works.

I have faced this issue multiple times and have failed to understand why Others folder literally gulp down your storage space...finally i got a resolution to it without using any cleaner or any app...steps mentioned below which helped me clear 40 GB of space:

    Step1 :

Go to Finder, click on the Go tab, Hold the option key on your keyboard, Library menu comes in the drop down menu, click on it, go to cache, delete the cache and empty trash

    Step 2:

Go to finder, click on the Go tab, Hold the option key on your keyboard, Library menu comes in the drop down menu, click on it, click on Application support, and delete all the applications you have deleted from the application folder and don’t need or use them (This folder basically contains all the root files of the deleted applications) (When we just delete an application example Vuze, the roots get stored in the Application folder of the library, although we don’t have the app on our system, coz the root files are still there memory is literally gulped)

Hope this helps all of you out there, as the others folder space consumption was always a mystery for me and for the past 2 years did not get any resolution better than what i just mentioned above.

    Cheers,
