MacBook Pro fails to restart after trying to upgrade to El Capitan

I attempted to upgrade from Mavericks to El Capitan and my macbook Pro gives the following message: File system verify or repair failed. I seem to be in an endless loop, trying to restart and ending at this same message everytime. Can anyone explain or help?

Hi Frau S.,

Thanks for using the Apple Support Communities!

From your post, I understand that you updated your Mac from Mavericks to El Capitan and now see a message that the file system verify or repair failed. We know that these types of situations can be frustrating, but we are here to help.

To begin troubleshooting, I suggest reading over and working through the information included in the following article.
