Prevent iPhone from charging while connected to computer?

Is there a way to prevent your iPhone from charging while connected to a computer? I have a laptop and am annoyed that my laptop battery is drained to charge up my iPhone every time I plug in my iPhone for updates. Interestingly, my iPad does NOT automatically charge while connected to a computer, so there must be a setting somewhere. Thoughts?

Thanks,

Lisa

Thank you all for your responses. I don't like plugging in my laptop when it's above 25%, and the iPhone iOS updates take so long to download and install I've had problems with my laptop running out of juice before I can get back to my computer and plug it in. (I don't just sit there for hours and monitor it. Who has time for that?)

Thanks again for your responses.

Well, the "logic" comes in when leaving your laptop plugged in all of the time destroys your battery so that it won't hold a charge at all. I had to replace batteries twice on my old laptop because I left it plugged in when it wasn't depleted enough.

That's not how those batteries work. The charging system won't 'overcharge' the batteries. You can leave it plugged in permanently, and it won't harm the battery. Repeatedly depleting the battery to zero then recharging it its far more wear & tear on the system. It's like letting your car run at 'idle' at a stoplight or in heavy traffic where you're stopped. Starting up your engine puts far more stress on it than letting it idle for a few minutes.

You couldn't be more wrong. No computer manufacturer would design a product that would damage itself simply by keeping it plugged in.

No..you replaced them because you kept letting the batteries die...shortening their life by using up all their "cycles" .
