What is com.apple.nsurlsessiond? What does it do and why do I need it.
I read similar post from 2014 and 2015 but non of them give a clear definition.

It's a daemon associated with using URLs, so most likely from Safari. You need it because it is part of OS X. Leave it and all other system files alone.
I should add that it is a routine coming from Xcode. Also, used with iCloud and part of the OS X networking API. You will find it in iOS as well as in OS X.
