Does AirDrop work on a BacBook Pro 2008

I have a 2008 MacBook Pro running OS X El Capitan. Should I be able to use AirDrop and, if so, how do I make it appear in the sidebar of Finder. (It automatically shows up in the sidebar of my 2013 MacBook Pro and my 2010 iMac.)

Open the Sidebar tab of the Finder's preferences and see if there's a box for it; if there isn't, no. Click here and see the bottom of the page for the requirements.
