Q: how to pair bluetooth mouse?

My Mac laptop is not pairing with a bluetooth mouse bought recently. According to the packaging it is compatible with my hardware. What is wrong?

MacBook Pro, OS X Yosemite (10.10.5), null

    I assume the mouse is a third-party one. Ask the manufacturer for assistance.

     

    Incidentally, if the mouse had been paired with something else, it would need to be "unpaired/deleted" from there first. BT devices may only be paired with one thing at a time.

    Hi Barry,

    You are entirely correct, however i discovered in my search to correct this problem that most third party manufacturers provide only 'standard' advice re: pairing. ie. if I request specific help they refer me back to apple. In response to your advice, there is no  mouse paired or any other bt device paired to my computer. So I have a confession to make... I returned it and purchased an apple mouse. No problems.

    HI Joe,

    i read the article you recommended and decided to cut to the chase and purchase an apple mouse to pair with

    my MacBook. The instructions worked perfectly. Lesson learned: don't believe everything you read on the box.
