iPhone 6s plus wifi disconnect after locking

I recently bought iphone 6s+ and running iOS 9.2.1..Whenever I lock (sleep) my iPhone, wifi automatically disconnects and when I unlock or press power button,it automatically connects..I dont think it is any kind of feature bcoz I am having delayed notifications due to this from apps like whatsapp, gmail etc..

Is it normal behaviour from iphone?

Android have 'keep wifi during sleep' option..I am missing that badly User uploaded file

Please help anyone..

P.S. battery saver mode is off..background app refreshing is on for all apps..I even tried reset all settings and network settings..what should I do?

Does your wife have Wi-Fi Calling turned on? As far as I know, that will keep the Wi-Fi turned on.

It doesn't. I have Wi-Fi calling, and it does not keep Wi-Fi on when the phone is locked. Wi-Fi will always turn off when the phone is locked, unless it is connected to power. So one way to keep it on is a charging case.

i've this problem as well. on all my apple devices. Any other devise (pc or androids) working regulary. wifi disconnect in a few minutes after screen locking and i receive all notifications only when I click on home button / when randomly iphone wakes up and does a check. Very frustrating. I tried to change something in my routher config (for example wifi channels as most of guides suggest but nothing...also from settings/wifi/connection/ http switched to auto as some of you suggested and nothing again). I'm very very frustrated, tried everything and still can't have my f**** notifications working in real time. PLs someone had and solved same issue, help me!

Every Apple iOS device since the beginning of iPhone time in June 2007 has disconnected Wi-Fi when the screen goes to sleep. Apple has designed it to work that way to avoid Wi-Fi (which users power continuously when connected) draining the battery. There is no way to keep it on, except to keep it connected to power. As the iPhone X still works this way, if it is essential to keep Wi-Fi connected continuously you should avoid all iOS devices.

BTW, I did not suggest anything ever to keep Wi-Fi on, except a battery-case.

man no offense, but stop writing stupid things...I'm with Apple since years and wifi always worked normally. Or better it worked perfectly till 1 week ago when I changed my home connection into a new one. Probably it's only a configuration that must be fixed to be compatible with apple devices (I expect something like this tbh), I'm not saying it's an Apple bug. But pls don't talk if you have no idea about what you are talking.

I have not been writing "stupid things". This question has come up regularly in the forum and other sites over the past 10 years, and the answer has always been the same. iOS devices have always disconnected from Wi-Fi 30 seconds after they lock. I have a very definite idea of what I am talking about; I have a Masters degree in Electrical Engineering, and I have worked as a network engineer. I have actually demonstrated it using network monitoring. It has always worked this way. If you have a device on an older version you can very easily test it yourself by simply pinging the phone's IP address from a computer and watching the pings time out 30 seconds after the phone locks. I've done this with every version of iOS, to see if anything has changed, and it never has.

I don't care whether you accept the personal observations I have reported or not. But I've told you how you can verify it yourself.

man your technical point of view has 0 value if me and any other user with this problem, use Iphone devices since years and NEVER had this problem before or NEVER have this problem on any other connection. Even a kid would understand, in a situation like this, that it's due to the compatibility between apple devices and some connection settings. I wrote that I'm not having it connectin from another wifi or trough my 4g connection. If it was like you say, don't you think I'd be having this issue everywhere and since I started using Iphone? 😀 Pls don't be fool, I gave so many details, I'm looking for the solution trough other users' experience. Don't need somebody who for unknown reasons is saying me (and thousands of people more) I'm crazy because the problem doesn't exist lol

Now, now. No one said you were crazy. No one said you aren't having a problem with your phone. Someone with a lot of technical knowledge just pointed out that you have some of your facts wrong. That happens to the best of us. Don't let it bother you too much. You can learn a huge amount here.

It’s actually quite simple. WMM APSD (Automatic Power Save Delivery) is a power saving feature featured on some wireless routers. It’s an option that allows the wireless chipset in smaller devices or mobile devices to turn on and off as needed. In theory it should improve battery life seing as your not running two radios. Yes it is true that WiFi saves more power than cellular, but that’s only when data is being transferred (downloading a large file, streaming video etc.) When your iPhone goes into sleep mode large amounts of data (usually) are not being transferred (think of just push notifications mainly) so WiFi turns off and cellular radio kicks in.
If you don’t want your iPhone to keep disconnecting while in sleep mode, go into your router and look for WMM APSD or something similar to power save mode under wireless settings and disable it. Should fix all your problems. ASUS routers tends to come with the option enabled. Also take a look into beamforming. This can sometimes knock off iphones. You may want try disabling those options as well.
Also, Android actually has an option to turn this on and off. I’ve owned every single Nexus, and I do recall under advanced WiFi options there is a (Stay connected to WiFi Always) option that you can change.

hi man, just seen your answer right now. Thanks interesting, and probably that's the reason/solution. Unfortunately I've Tp-link router, and I'm not that good in these technical things. Do you know if this brand has a similiar option? or would you be able to help me setting it? I'd be very glad, it's long time I'm fighting with it and haven't found a solution yet...

Yes, that is the way the iPhone works. When the phone goes to sleep, WiFi disconnects and the phone switches to cellular data. Your notifications should work over cellular data. If you want WiFi to remain connected when the phone goes to sleep, plug it in.
