Help with IDVD and/or Burning DVDs

Call me old fashion, but I still like to burn my IMovie projects on to DVDs. I had to buy the new version of IMovie because my photos were not showing up and that was my only option if I wanted to continue to burn my projects.

Now I can see my pictures 🙂 so I go to create an IDVD project but I cannot see my pictures there 😟 In this case I can not get the new version of IDVD because there isn't one!

I found some others in the App store but I don't know which would work best.

Does anyone know what app works best to burn IMovie projects on to DVDs?

What are my other options to save IMovie projects?

Thanks

So it's been a year since you answered my question and I was going to try what you recommended but the truth is, it's too complicated for me. I don't understand it all.

At this point I just want to finish what I started. I worked for hours to create slide shows that I have not been able to burn.

Do you know what would be the best or most comparable app to use to burn projects I have made with IMovie?

One that lets me use music from my Itunes library.

I think this is the easiest way for me.

Thanks!

If you don't mind using non apple software I highly recommend this app http://burn-osx.sourceforge.net/Pages/English/home.html it's very simple but it will allow you to burn video DVDs (standard DVDs) audio cds MP3 cds data discs and even allow you to copy a disc onto the mac in iso format so it can be burned back to another disc later I have used this app since osx 10.6.8 and my mac is currently running macos Sierra 10.12.3 and it runs fine the process would be to export your video project from imovie to say the desktop then use the burn app to burn that movie file using the dvd tab here are some links to some how tos for the burn app 1 = https://youtu.be/B-XiCZp72YA 2 = https://youtu.be/-P0dcx0Q3DM

P.S I mentioned a DVD tab above it's actually called the video tab not DVD sorry for any confusion I hope this helps

Also there are a list of different dvd authoring apps here https://www.iskysoft.com/dvd-solution/dvd-menu-creator.html unfortunately burn only gives you the option for a real basic dvd menu so you might want to go with one of these instead if you still have no luck call Apple and ask to speak with a product specialist and say you want someone to take ownership of your case what this basically means is you will be working with the one person until your issue is resolved trust me there are many good Advisors that know alot about the older software that could help out with this project and it doesn't have to be done all in one sitting either contact details will be exchanged and that way you can organise another convenient time to continue after you guys have started exporting/burning the first project as these steps take time and this can be done multiple times until you have exported your entire project maybe my brother is one of them I wish I could get him to give you a call as he knows the apps like the back of his hand but it's against policy to call customers outside of your shift apparently sorry it's so frustrating because I know he would point you in the right direction within a couple of minutes but seriously though if you need a hand gives Apple a call and get put through to a product specialist who as I said will take ownership and work with you until the movies are exported I wish you luck and definitely don't give up on this videos and photos are priceless they really are I assure you Apple will do everything possible to help you get those memories/projects you have no doubt spent a number of hours creating into a hard copy for safe keeping.

P.S sorry about the wall of text I like to talk if you can't tell haha.

Thanks for your help.

I download the app except when I went to open it this is what I got.

“Burn” can’t be opened because it is from an unidentified developer.

Your security preferences allow installation of only apps from the App Store and identified developers.

Is it safe to use even though is telling me this?

Thanks

What system version are you using? The following is predicated on El Capitan.

To use the current iMovie with iDVD one needs to export the movie to a folder on the hard drive, selecting 480p as the format. From that folder drag the movie into the iDVD menu window being careful to avoid any drop zones.

Do not move the iMovie exported file from its folder until the project is completed and a disk image has been created.

Follow this workflow to help assure the best qualty video DVD:

Once you have the project as you want it save it as a disk image via the File ➙ Save as Disk Image menu option. This will separate the encoding process from the burn process.

To check the encoding mount the disk image, launch DVD Player and play it. If it plays OK with DVD Player the encoding is good.

Then burn to disk with Disk Utility or Toast at the slowest speed available (2x-4x) to assure the best burn quality. Always use top quality media: Verbatim, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R are the most recommended in these forums.

Hi Old Toad

I'm trying to burn a DVD from the mounted disc image. I right click the disc image and select "burn to disc" however DVD player will then not play the new DVD the the process has finished.

DVD player played the mounted disc image perfectly so I know all is good up until that point.

You mention burning the DVD via Disk Utility is this where I'm going wrong?
