This Item cannot be shared while it is still referencing media on the camera

This problem has been really bugging me for iMovie i can't import videos from my camera on to my mac i have a JVC Everio camera, i have tried other discussions but non work I've heard using older versions of iMovie but i really don't want to re do my projects and i really can't. I've tried the share to theater twice and find the clip in the trash but that ended up as a photo not a video, can anyone help me?
