Q: My storage looks full even though its not.

When I go to the storage tab, it shows that my Mac storage is almost Full, but what it says is 209.56 GB free of 249.8 GB. I do not understand the reason behind this discrepancy. I have Do Not have a lot of programs on my mac, so it should have a lot of empty space available.

Does anyone know why that is?

MacBook Pro, OS X Yosemite (10.10.5)

open system preferences, click spotlight, click privacy, "+" add ur main drive to the list and then delete it.

The program that generates that display has a bug in it. Often a reindex of Spotlight will correct it:

If that does not resolve the problem, click on the HDD icon on your desktop (usually McIntosh HD) which should give you an accurate figure of HDD usage.
