Q: A question for a Mac EXPERT...

My 2008 21" iMac's screen has been white for a couple of months now. I've been using the mini DVI adapter to a VGA into a monitor to navigate around.

Recently, I have decided I want to sell it. But first, I need to reinstall the OS (10.5) so whoever purchases it has a clean start.

Here's the problem: I can't figure out a way to get my iMac to boot up off the install disc, in MIRROR MODE. Natively, it boots up in Extended Desktop mode.

I am using a third party keyboard: A "Macally" brand keyboard (meant specifically for Macs) and have tried every possibility that I've ran across through Google searches (F1, Command+F1, F7, Command+F7, etc.). The keyboard does not have a "fn" button.

Unfortunately, I cannot plug in a display adapter from one Mac to another (to mirror the broken display on another Mac) because it requires 2011 model or higher with the display input port.

If I purchase a Mac branded keyboard, one that has the "fn" key, will one of these button combos work to allow mirror mode...WHILE sitting at the OS boot screen (booting off the OS disc for re-installation??

Or, is there another way to go about this. I know about Target boot mode and all, and I know that will give me the option to wipe the iMac clean, but what about the re-install of the OS? I'll still need to see the screen to set it up, correct?

There has got to be a solution here (other than replace the screen), something I'm not savvy enough to understand or something simple I am missing.

So, I am calling to any Mac genius out there. Please help! Thanks!
