Q: Files flicker in FCP 7. Any remedy?

The original files are MPEG-4 files from Sony camera, shot at 120 fps. The lighting is some kind of arena lighting that is obviously pulsed. So there is a noticeable pulse to the files. Any way to play with this to smooth it out?

There are some 3rd party tools that will work on this, Google search for Deflicker.

I'm not sure that you can ever get this to look perfect, but it may be reduced.

If you don't have a lot of footage to fix (edit the material first then try this trick on just the necessary footage) =

Export the video as an image sequence.

In Photoshop, set up an action that opens each frame, applies automatic brightness and contrast correction, and then saves the image.

Run the action on all the frames.

Import the corrected image sequence back into FCP. you can add additional color correction if needed.
