Mac Pro 2010 digital audio input not working...

I was thinking I could get digital audio into my mac pro via a 8 channel Midas XL48 Mic pre with lightpipe output to the lightpipe digial audio input of my mac pro using and optical cable.

Instead I get nothing. The mic pre does not seem to show up under audio midi setup or sound preference. I thought the mac pros could except 8 channels of adat input??

I wanted to basically use the preamp as an audio interface for REAPER. ANy ideas on why this does not seem to work?

I tried to create a aggregate device also but it still only shows 2 channels not 8 nor did I get audio in with just 2 channels.
