How do I get my menu bar back on my macbook pro? The dock has disappeared too. I know I only have to take my pointer up (or down) there but it is a waste of time and it annoys me. Its only happening on Safari, not on other apps.

Hi Memake:

Under "System Preferences" select "General" and check that "Automatically hide and show the menu bar" is not selected.

Also under "System Preferences" select "Dock" and check that "Automatically hide and show dock" is not selected.

See if that helps.

You could try a start in Safe mode:

• Try safe mode if your Mac doesn't finish starting up - Apple Support

That may allow further troubleshooting.

Also, sometimes there may be a hardware issue that an SMC reset may help with

depending on the cause:

• Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC) on your Mac - Apple Support

You may be able to try the Hardware test to see what appears in results:

• Using Apple Hardware Test - Apple Support

Other options include scheduling an appointment with an Apple Store genius or an

authorized Apple service provider to have the unit inspected, diagnostic tests, etc.

There may be system software or hardware issues, so to troubleshoot to attempt

to see what is the cause, may take time. If you have a backup in Time Machine &

end up using OS X Recovery to see about using OS X Utilities, Disk Utility or

other functions, be aware this can do more advanced features; it may not need.

Because this issue appears as a symptom in Safari, that makes it most curious.

• Stop pop-up ads and adware in Safari - Apple Support

There may be an odd extension in Safari that may relate to some adware or other

items, so that is another matter to consider; an Etrecheck report may tell you if

some of the candidates are in there; but maybe not. I don't use Safari primarily

so my other two browsers work a little differently.

Good luck & happy computing! 🙂

The suggestion and reply by Duane points to a plausible condition that bears

looking into because Safari is the only place where you said this happens.

Because I don't use browsers in full-screen (by accident or intention) that may

have been set by keyboard shortcut or other method; so I rarely use that choice.

So, if you did somehow engage Safari to launch in Full-screen mode, as indicated

then the cure would be to try & see the suggestion to revert to standard view mode

would do for you. Since the application is the first best place to look (I assumed you

had already checked into the behavior of a single application, first) when only one

is acting out. As I have three browsers and run several open windows at once, my

preference is to also have access to Finder and desktop, to perform additional tasks.

Hopefully the evidence proves to be that simple.

If that isn't the case, try Safe mode; in Disk Utility> repair disk permissions> restart.

Good luck! 🙂
