Q: Two Windows partitions after installing Boot camp?

I have a new Macbook Pro from 2015, with OS X 10.11.3 El Capitan.

I put the Windows 10 iso file in download folder, and installed it using Boot Camp assistant. After formatting the Bootcamp partition in the Windows setup guide, and finalizing the installation everything seems fine.

But.

When booting with alt-key to chose between Mac and Windows, I now have two Windows icons together with the Mac icon. One boots my installed Windows 10, and the other icon starts the Windows setup guide again. Why is this last Windows icon and option to boot the Windows setup still there?

MacBook Pro (15-inch Late 2011), OS X El Capitan (10.11.3)

    Hi there Jer2015,

It sounds like you are seeing an extra drive when you hold option and boot your computer, that will start the Windows installation again when selected. That sounds to me like you still have the USB drive plugged in with the ISO installation files on it. All you should need to do is unplug it from the computer and it should no longer be an option.

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities!

Unfortunately that isn't the case. This is actually a bug in OSX Boot Camp. It's still unresolved by Apple. Unfortunately when you install Windows from Boot Camp but uninstall without Boot Camp, it will leave a Windows partition there that you cannot remove.

This is not a bug. If you use BCA, the remove must also use BCA, not Disk Utility. This is documented in Boot Camp: Remove Windows from your Mac .

If you have used DU to erase (not remove the partition), reformat it as FAT32 and retry the BCA method as shown in the link.

The partition does not show on Disk Utility anymore so perhaps DU thinks it's been deleted but it hasn't, right?

How do I reformat the partition to FAT32 if it doesn't even show in DU?

From Applications -> Utilities -> Terminal, please post the output of the following commands.

    diskutil list

    diskutil cs list

sudo gpt -vv -r show /dev/disk0

The "sudo" command will prompt you for your password, which will not be echoed back to you.

Not quite sure what I need to do next. I have both OSX and Win10 installed on my computer. I also have an extra Windows option in the boot up that I can choose. I'm trying to get rid of that.

Can you post the output of the two diskutil commands?

Trying to post the other diskutil command but the Apple forums won't let me. Keeps saying "The message contains invalid characters".

    1. Your Windows Installer (OSXRESERVED) should have been deleted, if Windows installation was successful.

    2. You have Windows Recovery (disk0s6). Was Windows installation completed successfully?
