Dictated text in Pages randomly appears in Find and replace box

I posted this on another forum, so apologies for the duplication.

This is my problem:

Enhanced Dictation works for a sentence or two, then randomly (?) sends the next line of text to the Find and Replace box. This is SO frustrating! Does anyone have any idea why? I have the same problem using TextEdit and Word for Mac. Its probably something ridiculously simple. I hope.

Thank you!

Memory: 4 GB 1067 MHz DDR3

iMac (2009), using El Capitan (10.11.3)

same problem for me, but I am brand new to using apple dictate on my Macbook Air 2015 on SIerra. I find that there is an alert tone telling me I have entered an enhanced ditation phrase, although I havent, and then the find replace pops up. The times that it occurs is when I am speaking fast and the computer seems to be "lost". I am going to turn off the FIND command as one of the readers suggested, and see if this fixes things. Otherwise I have to tak slowly, or would have to turn off enhanced dictation.

If you speak “Find the text,” or “Search for,” followed by any word or expression, then the Pages Find dialog, or Spotlight panel respectively — will launch with that word or expression typed into it. This is my experience using Enhanced Dictation (locally resolved dictation) on El Capitan and macOS Sierra.

Once those expressions are disabled in System Preferences : Accessibility : Dictation panel : Dictation Commands... they are unavailable as spoken commands, and will resolve future collisions with spoken content.

The only two triggers for a Find/Replace panel appearance during dictation would be either clicking command+F, or using Dictation reserved words in your dictation (e.g. Find the text <phrase>) where the reserved word would launch the dialog and the phrase spoken afterwards would continue to be typed in that dialog. I simply cannot reproduce any other alternative here with Enhanced Dictation on Pages v5.6.1, or Pages '09 v4.3 on El Capitan 10.11.3.

I was having the exact same issue. When VikingOSX mentioned enhanced dictation, I remembered that dictation was working great and I was so impressed I wanted to give it more permissions, and I turned on everything I could for dictation. And that's when the problems started. So I went into System Preferences -> Accessibility -> Dictation -> Dictation Commands and turned off "Enable advanced commands." Now it's working great again.

I agree with you, that's how it's supposed to work, and it even seemed to work that way for me for an hour or so yesterday after I had turned everything on as I mentioned before. But today it was terrible, and I find it very interesting that libgal14 and I are having identical issues. In my dictation I was not using the word "find," nor anything that sounds like it in my opinion. And yet it was doing that.

Thanks for getting back to me, Auslegung. I'm both glad to hear that I'm not the only one this is happening to, and sorry that it's happening to you too! LOL Because my dictation work requires shifting back and forth between sources and typing, for me the best resolution has turned out to be speaking 3 to 5 words at the time. Very slow, but better than constantly moving back and forth from book to computer. Sigh. Perhaps the Apple gods will hear us at some point .... I'm not getting my hopes up.

Enhanced Dictation supports a number of built-in commands, but some commands are more likely than others to be falsely recognized based on the user's voice and acoustic environment. Fortunately, you can disable individual commands by clicking "Dictation Commands" in the Dictation section of the Accessibility preference pane. Once the sheet appears, uncheck the commands that you find are being falsely recognized most often. I've found that "Find the text <phrase>" and "How do I <phrase>" account for most of the false recognitions in my environment.

Hi All....

Please go to this link and Provide Feedback to Apple regarding this issue. There doesn't seem to be alink onthis page for feedback regarding Dictation or other macOS technologies, so pick the icon for the machine you are using, and provide the feedback there.

I have a mid-2015 MacBook Pro running Sierra 10.12.1. I am using enhanced dictation and continue to have the problems that you describe - and others. I have been dictating for over 30 years and in the old days used Dragon Naturally Speaking. I find the Mac dictation product to be inferior to products I used 15 years ago. It doesn't train well, it makes various random errors and it is egregiously under-supported by Apple. I do have advanced commands enabled and I, too, find my dictation randomly jumping up into the find and replace box. The random capitalization occurs frequently. I sympathize with your plight as I discovered it looking for some answer to mine, which does not seem to exist. I only hope that Apple made enough money having my new computer manufactured in labor camps in China that they will eventually spend some of it unplugging their collective heads from the dark place that they have stuffed them and catch up with Dragon's product of 15 years ago.
