My iMac periodically will not allow entries onto websites, nor will it allow searches in Safari. Specifically, when I turn it on or reboot, the system works as designed. However, after it has been on for a few hours, it no longer permits me to login to apps on my machine or websites. Nor does it allow entries into the search field in Safari. What happens is that as I type, the cursor slows down and begins to display letters in a balloon above it. When I stop typing, it automatically enters ************* in the field, taking up the whole field in both the ID and password fields. Nothing else happens. There is no error from the app or the search bar that is displayed. When this happens, I have to reboot the machine. It solves the problem for a short time, then it starts all over again. What do I need to do to correct this?
iMac, OS X Mavericks (10.9.1)
